Description:
Testing for anti-neutrophil cytoplasmic antibodies.
Learning Objectives:
  1. Identify the steps of an indirect immunofluorescence antibody (IFA) procedure and be able to state the purpose of each step.
  2. Identify the steps of an enzyme immunoassay (EIA) procedure and be able to state the purpose of each step.
  3. State the role of ANCA testing in the diagnosis of vasculitis.
  4. Identify neutrophils and lymphocytes on IFA substrates.
  5. View ANCA IFA results and identify C-ANCA, P-ANCA, ANA, mixed ANCA and ANA, and atypical staining patterns on ethanol fixed substrate.
  6. View ANCA IFA results and identify ANCA staining on formalin fixed substrate.
  7. State two strategies that can be used to differentiate P-ANCA, ANA staining, and mixed patterns.
  8. Identify the antibodies that are commonly associated with the C-ANCA and P-ANCA patterns.
  9. Identify the clinical correlations, if any, that are associated with ANCA staining patterns.
