Description:
Patient safety in ordering and administering of blood products. Topics include: patient verification, blood product inspection, and patient monitoring during the transfusion.
Learning Objectives:
- List the steps required to correctly order blood products for transfusion.
- Identify basic blood products and explain indications for use.
- Define Zero Tolerance Policy of patient identification during transfusion administration.
- List the steps required to complete a bedside check of a patient receiving a blood transfusion.
- Identify the steps to perform an evaluation of a blood product before transfusion.
- Recognize signs and symptoms of an adverse event during and following blood product administration.
- Describe actions to perform if a transfusion reaction occurs.
