Description:
Anatomy, pathophysiology, and biomarkers used to diagnose and monitor cardiovascular disease.
Learning Objectives:
- Describe basic cardiac anatomy, physiology, and direction of coronary blood flow.
- Correlate the electrical activity of the heart with coronary blood flow.
- Define the terms: angina, ischemia, cardiovascular disease, and coronary artery disease.
- List the symptoms of ischemia.
- Describe the pathophysiology of coronary artery disease, acute coronary syndrome, acute myocardial infarction, and heart failure.
- List the criteria for diagnosing an acute myocardial infarction.
- List the causes and symptoms of heart failure.
- Identify the current biomarkers of acute myocardial infarction.
- Identify the current biomarker for heart failure.
- Discuss the Framingham Score, including risk factors used in the calculation.
- Identify biomarkers of coronary risk assessment.
