Description:
Techniques for blood collection from pediatric patients, including use of special equipment and distraction techniques, for laboratory and nursing staff who perform pediatric phlebotomy, and phlebotomy students.
Learning Objectives:
  1. List the equipment and supplies needed to perform a pediatric blood draw.
  2. List the key patient considerations for various age groups of pediatric patients.
  3. Describe the steps in performing a pediatric venipuncture using a syringe and winged (butterfly) needle.
  4. Describe the steps in performing pediatric finger stick and heel stick procedures.
  5. Describe the steps in performing a capillary blood gas.
