Description:
Objective tests covering all areas of laboratory testing. The clinical laboratory is one of several ancillary services that provides objective data to aid in the diagnosis and management of disease. The clinical lab serves the primary care physician and the medical specialties by performing laboratory tests. In addition, laboratory personnel sometimes assist the physician in test selection and interpretation. The clinical lab is the most requested ancillary service. A large lab performs thousands of tests each day.
Learning Objectives:
- Select the correct specimen collection & PPE requirement for stated test.
- Differentiate between true and false statements regarding pre-analytic procedures.
- Identify errors involving patient identification, specimen collection and processing.
- Match disease associations with results for common assays.
- Demonstrate understanding of emerging issues in laboratory medicine.
