This seminar discusses the basics of immunology (antibodies, antigens and testing techniques) and the use of serologic assays to aid the MD in the diagnosis of celiac disease and gluten enteropathies. Laboratory and clinical findings are presented. The laboratorian will understand the disease and diagnostic process. Also included is a discussion of the various techniques used in identification of antibody patterns seen in celiac disease. The discussion includes past, present and new assays.
