Description:
Evaluating the quality of laboratories and laboratory methods is critical for clinicians concerned with ordering the right test for the right patient. There is unfortunately both information, and misinformation, circulated on this topic, and the generally applicable US standards (CLIA and CAP) are very important but vague. In this webinar we discuss important considerations that high-quality laboratories focus on during test development and routine operations and we explain these in terms that clinicians will understand.
Learning Objectives:
  1. Review next-generation sequencing  and other emerging genetic testing technologies
  2. Outline key issues and differences in genetic testing methodologies
  3. Review important factors and metrics used in assessing laboratory quality
  4. Discuss variant classification, including variants of uncertain significance
