Description:
Genome/exome sequencing is often considered the DNA test of last resort. However, because genome sequencing cuts short many diagnostic odysseys and provides complete coverage of nearly all genes, genome sequencing should in many cases be the first test that is ordered. Genome sequencing helps to control costs and very often provides the best value to the patient. Dr. Weber will discuss applications of genome sequencing, the importance of an early and accurate diagnosis, and the cost advantages and limitations of genome sequencing.
Learning Objectives:
- Recite many of the applications of genomic sequencing.
- Compare different genome sequencing tests.
- Understand current limitations of genome sequencing.
- Gain a better appreciation for the value of genomic sequencing.
