Description:
This presentation discusses opportunities for improving consistency of performance and reporting of immunofluorescence tests for antibodies to nuclear antigens (ANA). Common and selected unusual ANA patterns are presented in accord with the classification proposed by the International Consensus of ANA Patterns (ICAP).
Learning Objectives:
  1. Describe the ICAP classifications to organize immunofluorescence patterns observed on HEp-2 cell substrates.
  2. Discuss the dense fine speckled pattern (DFS) and its clinical implications.
  3. Consider strategies for reporting HEp 2 cell cytoplasmic patterns when an ANA test is ordered.
