Description:
This talk focuses on the uncertainty of biomarker legislation and the impact on payers, providers, laboratories, patients, and the overall healthcare system. Many states across the country have introduced and passed biomarker legislation, which aims to increase access to biomarker testing for patients. While these bills initially focused on cancer, the inclusion and exclusion of language has vastly changed the intent and potential requirements of these bills. Discussions between payers, providers, laboratories, and legislators are vital to understanding the future of these types of legislation and utility of this approach in expanding access to medically necessary tests.
Learning Objectives:
  1. Define the different elements and language that commonly exists in biomarker bill legislation.
  2. Describe the history of biomarker bills and the various ways these bills have changed over time.
  3. Provide an overview of the different challenges payers face in interpreting and implementing a solution to biomarker bills.
