Description:
Send-out referral laboratories support clinical needs but may cause issues related to regulations and governance, specimen logistics, test result availability, and cost and reimbursement. Miscellaneous send-outs can increase risks of specimen collection and processing errors, result delays, and repeat testing. This webinar describes UCLA Health’s review of MISC send-out tests and the identification of appropriate tests to build in the EHR system, as well as efforts to establish a preferred referral test list and a streamlined request process for providers. The speaker shares UCLA Health's initial experiences and data regarding these initiatives.
Learning Objectives:
  1. Identify risks associated with miscellaneous (non-discrete) referral laboratory test orders.
  2. Compare prospective and retrospective methods for identifying appropriate referral laboratory tests.
  3. Define measures for demonstrating the impact of referral laboratory test ordering interventions.
